Actor John Ortiz from HBO’s “Luck” participated in
Wednesday’s Santa Anita Handicap draw.
Julio Canani, left, trainer of Big ‘Cap starter Holladay Road, was joined by actor John Ortiz who plays a character based on Canani in the HBO TV series “Luck” on Wednesday to watch the draw for post positions for the Grade 1, $750,000 Santa Anita Handicap to be run on Saturday, March 3.

Defending Big ‘Cap champion Game On Dude opted out of the race and will be pointed instead to the Dubai World Cup. With that key defection, Ultimate Eagle swoops into the spotlight as the 5-2 morning line favorite among 13 entrants in Saturday’s 75th running of the Grade 1 fixture.
The Big ’Cap will be run for the first time ever as the day’s last race and will follow the Las Virgenes Stakes and the Frank E. Kilroe Mile as the card concludes with three successive Grade 1 stakes.
