Broadway’s Alibi, a romping winner in her last stakes start, proved she is the real deal on Saturday, wiring a competitive group in Saturday’s Comely Stakes (G3) at Aqueduct.
Ridden by Javier Castellano, Broadway’s Alibi assumed command at the break. She clicked off fractions of 23.73, 47.25 and 1:11.74 before stopping the clock in 1:36.53 for the one-mile distance. The daughter of Vindication defeated Welcome Guest by 3 ½ lengths. Millionreasonswhy finished third.
Broadway’s Alibi is a homebred for E. Paul Robsham Stables. She won the Forward Gal Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park last time out by 16 ¾ lengths. She is conditioned by Todd Pletcher.
“I wanted to make a gradual stretch out, so we were pleased. [As for trying two turns], I don’t know yet. We’ll take her back to Palm Meadows tomorrow and see how she trains,” Pletcher told NYRA Press. “She was kind enough today to step up to a mile. It’s encouraging, but we’ll just play it by ear and see.”
