Zenyatta’s half-sister Eblouissante remained perfect in two career starts after winning an optional claiming event on Thursday at Santa Anita.
Stakes company is likely next up for the daughter of Bernardini owned by breeder Eric Kronfeld. Eblouissante, who was making her first start at Santa Anita after breaking her maiden across town over the synthetic surface at Betfair Hollywood Park last November, was ridden by Corey Nakatani and is trained by John Shirreffs. Her trainer indicated after the victory that the Santa Maria Stakes on Feb. 16 or the Santa Margarita Stakes on March 16 are under consideration.
“She’s such a big filly,” said Nakatani. “They ran away from her a little, so I just dropped her steady inside. The plan was to see how she handled the dirt today and she handled it better than we thought she would. Obviously, it didn’t bother her. What more can you say, except that I’m ecstatic she’s back and in John’s care. She’s tremendous.”
The 4-year-old was scratched out of a race on Dec. 15 after striking her hip on a door in the receiving barn at Hollywood Park.
