Trainer Todd Pletcher worked out his Kentucky Derby contenders Gemologist and El Padrino at Palm Meadows in Boynton Beach, Fl., on Thursday.

According to Daily Racing Form’s Mike Welsch, WinStar Farm’s Gemologist worked five furlongs in 1:00.84, galloping out six furlongs in 1:14.13 and seven-eighths in 1:27.81. The work was the first for Gemologist since his Wood Memorial victory at Aqueduct on April 7.

Also on the Palm Meadows work tab this morning was El Padrino, owned by Let’s Go Stable. El Padrino, which translates to “The Godfather,” worked five furlongs in 1:00.48, and in a strong gallop out, according to Welsch, went six furlongs in 1:13.24 and seven-eighths in 1:26.73.

A Tweet from Let’s Go Stable on Thursday read: “The Godfather worked…Everybody is very happy…We’ll likely make a jockey announcement tomorrow.”
