Gentlemen’s Bet Upsets Delauney in Iowa Sprint

Gentlemen’s Bet got the best of 1-5 favorite Delauney in the $125,000 Iowa Sprint at Prairie Meadows on June 28.

Ridden by David Mello, pinch-hitting for Robby Albarado, Gentlemen’s Bet defeated the odds-on favorite by 1 ¾ lengths and covered six furlongs in 1:09.51. Delauney bumped with Credit Report at the start, made the lead under Rosie Napravnik but could not match strides with the winner late.

Gentlemen’s Bet is now a winner in five of six lifetime starts. The Iowa Sprint was the initial stakes victory of the lightly-raced son of Half Ours who also finished third in this year’s Count Fleet Handicap (G3) at Oaklawn Park.

Bred in Florida by Juvenal Diaz, Gentlemen’s Bet races in the colors of Harry Rosenblum and is trained by Ron Moquett. Gentlemen’s Bet now boasts earnings of $216,700.
