Gitchee Goomie, a hard-knocking 5-year-old mare, notched the first graded stakes win of her career on Tuesday, taking the Dr. James Penny Memorial Handicap (G3) at PARX.
Ridden by Alan Garcia, the New York-bred daughter of City Zip defeated Hessonite by a half-length. The winner covered the 1 1/16 miles on turf in 1:41 1/5 for trainer Richard Violette. Bred by Barry Ostrager and owned by Patsy Symons, Gitchee Goomie has earned $648,020 in winning seven of 19 career starts. She finished second in the Penny Memorial last year.
