Trainer Doug O’Neill sent his crack 3-year-old colt, Goldencents, out for a six furlong late morning workout on Saturday at Santa Anita Park.
With regular pilot Kevin Krigger up, Goldencents covered six furlongs in a brisk 1:10.27 over a track labeled wet fast. Winner of the Sham Stakes at Santa Anita in his last start, Goldencents is co-owned by University of Louisville basketball coach Rick Pitino, along with W.C Racing and Dave Kenney.
“He worked like a champ,” said O’Neill. “I’m very happy.”
Goldencents is working toward a start in the San Felipe Stakes (G2) in March. The race is a major steppingstone to the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby (G1) on April 6.
