Hip No. 149, a 2-year-old colt by Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown sold for $1.3 million to top Fasig-Tipton’s Florida sale at Palm Meadows in Boynton Beach, Fl. on Monday.
As a few of us converged on Ciaran Dunne outside barn 20 following the sale, photographer Louise Reinagel caught this moment with the sale topper being fed by his groom, “Snake,” who was understandably all smiles not long after the colt exited the ring.
Consigned by Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree Stables of Ocala, the colt was signed for by agent Demi O’Byrne for John Magnier, Derrick Smith and Michael Tabor.
A total of 60 horses sold at the one-day venue, bringing a gross of more than $19 million. The sale average was $320,250. Also selling for $1 million or more were hip No.96, a Distorted Humor colt who brought $1.2 million from John Ferguson, and hip No. 51, a Tapit colt who sold for $1 million to Sallusto/Albina for Black Rock Thoroughbreds.
