Spring in the Air Best in Darley Alcibiades at Keeneland

John Oxley’s Spring in the Air rallied from far off the pace to win the 61st running of the $400,000 Darley Alcibiades (G1) at Keeneland on Friday.

Spring in the Air, an OBS graduate, won the Alcibiades for 2-year-old fillies by a length over Broken Spell before a Fall Meet opening-day crowd of 18,417.

Spring in the Air earned a berth to the Breeders’ Cup World Championships scheduled for Nov. 2-3 at Santa Anita. Spring in the Air’s victory secured her a spot in the $2 million Grey Goose Juvenile Fillies (G1) on Nov. 2. Spring in the Air, a Canadian-bred daughter of Spring At Last out of the Unbridled mare Unbridled Run, gave trainer Mark Casse and jockey Patrick Husbands their first Keeneland stakes victory together.

Spring in the Air, who completed the 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.33, returned mutuels of $10.60, $6 and $3.60. Broken Spell paid $17 and $10.40 with Magical Moon returning $4.80 to show. Tara From the Cape finished a length back in fourth..

The Darley Alcibiades victory was worth $240,000 and increased Spring in the Air’s bankroll to $371,519 with a record of 4-2-2-0.
