Sum of the Parts wired nine rivals in the Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix Stakes (G3) at Keeneland and earned a berth in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) next month at Santa Anita.

Jockey Julien Leparoux sent Sum of the Parts to the lead out of the gate, leading the field of 10 through fractions of :22.75 and :46.04 with favored Doctor Chit in close pursuit.

At the head of the stretch, Sum of the Parts shook clear of Doctor Chit and never was threatened in completing the six furlongs over the Polytrack in 1:09.88. The stakes victory was the 30th at Keeneland for Leparoux and the eighth for trainer Tom Amoss. It was the first Stoll Keenon Ogden Phoenix victory for both.

The victory was worth $105,000 and increased Sum of the Parts’ earnings to $501,463 with a record of 10-5-2-0. Sum of the Parts is a 3-year-old Kentucky-bred son of Speightstown out of the multiple stakes-winning Slew’s Royalty mare Enjoy the Moment.

Sum of the Parts returned $11.80, $6.20 and $4.80. Noble’s Promise, ridden by David Cohen, paid $8.20 and $6 with Laurie’s Rocket, ridden by Rajiv Maragh, finishing a head back in third and paying $8.40 to show.

It was 1½ lengths back to Aikenite in fourth with Doctor Chit, Will’s Wildcat, Lonesome Street, Cajun Breeze, Hamiltonian and Night Party completing the field in order.
