Daily Racing Form
reported late Tuesday that Union Rags has sustained a minor tendon injury to his left front leg and will miss the remainder of this season.

Russell Jones, an advisor to Phyllis Wyeth, the colt’s owner and breeder, told Glenye Cain Oakford that he heard about the injury from Union Rags’ trainer Michael Matz.

“Mrs. Wyeth is currently evaluating his future plans,” Jones said in a handwritten statement to Daily Racing Form. “We will have a statement describing further the injury from Dr. Kathy Anderson at Fair Hill in the morning.”

Union Rags won the Belmont Stakes (G1) in his most recent start, running down Paynter in a dramatic stretch duel. He also captured the Fountain of Youth Stakes earlier this year at Gulfstream Park.
