The Triple Crown trail lost one of its key contenders over the weekend as Violence exited his runner-up effort in the Fountain of Youth Stakes (G2) with a fractured sesamoid.
Trainer Todd Pletcher said the son of Medaglia d’Oro was “resting comfortably” on Sunday and that he expects a complete recovery, although the colt’s racing career is very much in doubt.
Violence won three of four career starts, including the CashCall Futurity (G1) at Betfair Hollywood Park and the Nashua Stakes (G2) at Aqueduct. A $680,000 Keeneland September graduate, Violence was bred by Dell Ridge Farm and raced in the colors of Black Rock Stables LLC. The Fountain of Youth was his first start of the season.
